It's Valentine's Day and love is in the air! Our members share how they met their beloveds.
They Met in the Green Room – Bob and Debbie Kovach met in 1984 when they were part of the 1984 Hexagon show, "Capitol Follies", performed at Trinity Church in DC. As with so many things in life, their meeting was one of great timing, and as Debbie says, "kind of a miracle". Bob had volunteered for Hexagon, but had gotten busy with work and returned only after being encouraged to come back. Debbie saw an ad for auditions in the no longer in print, Northwest Current. Having a love for singing and musical theatre, Debbie auditioned and became part of the cast. There in the Trinity Church's basement "Green Room", Bob and Debbie met. They married in October 1985 and will celebrate their 40th anniversary this year!

A Document that Needed Notarizing and an Opera Brought This Pair Together – Paul and Merry Pearlstein's chance encounter led to a decades' long marriage. Paul's client needed to have a document notarized. Paul arranged to drive a notary to his client's home. The notary happened to be Merry. To Paul's surprise, on the drive back he learned that Merry was not only a notary but the vice president of a real estate syndicate. He could not pay her the DC notary fee of 50 cents, but he did have tickets to Rigoletto and Boris Godunov and invited her. It was fortuitous since Merry was not partial to the treble range and loves the bass tones as a former tuba player. The couple has been together ever since. Paul says that he owes his client a big thank you.

Love at First Sight – Morgan Gopnik met a young man and fell instantly in love. The pair looked in each other's eyes and connected immediately. In fact, they still burst into smiles each time they see each other. With apologies to her dear husband of fifty years, Morgan is referring, of course, to her sweet grandson Ellis! Within two hours of his birth, Morgan held Ellis in her arms. They did, indeed, stare into each other's eyes getting to know each other. That feeling of connection has remained strong over the last seven years as Morgan and Ellis progressed from cuddles, simple games, and reading books, to long hikes and bike rides, cut-throat card games, and probing conversations about life. Morgan hopes and expects their love to last a lifetime - and we are certain it will!
